Like most social dance events, the Chagrin Falls Contra Dance starts with a dance lesson. That allows newbies to relax, feel comfortable and mingle with the old hands, to see that this type of folk dancing isn’t intimidating at all.
Not that contra dancing should intimidate anyone. It’s similar to square dancing in that movements are clear and repetitive and there’s a caller telling you what to do next. It’s something people of all ages can do and you don’t have to bring a partner because everyone dances with everyone else before the end of the night. Kenny Wilson will do the calling, Stomp Culture will provide live music for dancing at 8, following the lesson at 7pm. It takes place at Chagrin Falls Township Hall in downtown Chagrin Falls.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for youth.
