Artists Archives Program Addresses Art’s Economic and Civic Benefits

Sat 2/24 @ 1-3PM

We all know about art for art’s sake, how it enhances and beautifies our life and gives us uplift. But sometimes it’s necessary to sell the idea of art having another purpose — doing good for the community.

The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve’s ART BITES series presents “Art as an Economic and Civic Engagement Engine,” a 45-minute talk by arts professionals Paul Biber and Joan Perch who have experience as gallerists, arts advocates and drivers of community arts iniviatives. Biber had a gallery in the Cleveland Flux Building and Arts in the Powerhouse, both in the Flats. Biber and Perch together ran ArtMetro, in the “ArtCade,” a shortlived project that turned the Colonial Arcade into an art mecca. They’ve also been involved in such community projects as the Sparx City Hop (which they founded as the Sparx Art Hop), Lorain’s FireFish Festival and the Ingenuity Festival.

The program is free. Make a reservation at the AAWR website or by calling 216-721-9020.
