A Healing

I don’t know about you. But we’re fed up. A well-regulated militia sounds like our police and military, not an AR-15 in every backpack. Mansfield suggests a sleeping giant has been awakened. This week, we recommend action and healing.

You’d do well to start with the family-friendly all-day Big Love Festival that Zach Friedhof founded a few years back to encourage “building and cultivating community and transformation.” Brite Winter has blossomed into a massive cold weather event with 40 bands, art, Zumba, ice carving, food trucks and enough goodwill to carry you through ’til spring. Cullen and Emmett O’Connor started Archie and the Bunkers in CLE as pre-teens with a hi-fi organ punk vibe, and their new single will save your soul.

Soothe your spirit with Family Game Night at CMA, Musical Rainbow at Severance, and MacArthur genius award winner and acclaimed jazz violinist Regina Carter at Oberlin’s Finney Chapel. Revive your resolve with the Lake Erie Folk Fest at Shore Cultural Center, the Cleveland Cello Society at The Music Settlement, and Instagram photojournalist Ruddy Roye at Cleveland Print Room. Support the best of our community, or the worst will take over. –Thomas Mulready
