Walt Mahovlich has been known in Cleveland for several decades as a champion of Eastern European music, both as a musician and a promoter.
His showcase band is Harmonia, a six-piece ensemble which incorporates folk and popular music from all over Eastern Europe, with Croatian, Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian, Ukrainian and Gypsy influences. It’s performed on authentic instruments from the region, including accordion (which Mahovlich plays), violin, cimbalon, pan flute and upright bass. The band also features Slovak vocalist Beata Begeniova.
They’ll perform at Nighttown. Tickets are $20.
