Picture Book Artist Ed Emberly Comes to Akron Art Museum for Family-Friendly Show Opening

Thu 1/11 @ 6-8PM

The new exhibit at the Akron Art Museum, Better You Than Me features a selection of work by artist/picture book illustrator Ed Emberly, who has won the Caldecott Medal for best picture book for children and created a series of instructional drawing books. In all he’s put out nearly 70 books that are humorous and entertaining as well as educational. The exhibit will include original sketches, drawings and prints, mock-ups and first editions of some of his books.

Naturally, since the bulk of his work is primarily for children, the show is opening with a kid-friendly party, loaded with fun activities for all ages. There’ll be interactive storytelling with thumbprint puppets by Kyle Jozsa of Wandering Aesthetics, drawing demonstrations by guest curator Caleb Neelon, music and snacks.

Best of all, Emberly, who is now 86, and his wife of 62 years Barbara (who wrote the book that won the Caldecott), will be at the event signing books which will be available for purchase.

The party is free and open to all.
