Anyone who gardens knows how essential bees are to the process of growing, pollinating flowers and vegetable blossoms. And keeping backyard hives is growing in popularity as more communities pass ordinances which allow it.
Those whose interest has been piqued and are thinking of acquiring a hive of their own should come out to the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center in Bay Village for “Intro to Backyard Beekeeping,” suitable for adults and families with kids over the age of 10.
Beekeeper Christine Barnett will talk about the habits of honeybees, how they benefit the environment and what you can do to help keep them healthy. She’ll share the first steps you can take to nurture your own hive. Fee is $5 per person. You can register in advance here.
