Since cofounding Zygote Press in 1995, artist/entrepreneur/arts cheerleader Liz Maugans has had an immeasurable impact on the local arts scene. After helping to establish Zygote as a cornerstone of the scene in printmaking, she encouraged and mentored organizations founded on its model to do photography, papermaking, fiber arts and ceramics. She has also emerged as one of the most eloquent spokespeople for local artists at a time when it seemed like decisions were being made for artists without their input.
At the end of last year, she resigned from Zygote to put her energies elsewhere, undoubtedly to the benefit of the arts community. Now her friends, supporters and admirers are coming together for a party to celebrate her transition called Liz Fest 2018. It takes place at BAYarts where there will be beer, wine and appetizers, and a roast-and-toast from 7-8pm. Tickets are $30.
