Old Friends Share the Stage at Old Home Night at the Beachland

Thu 12/21 @ 8PM

Old Home Night is a Beachland tradition dating back many years, featuring players that circled around the Pere Ubu orbit.

Its “star” band is the Home & Garden, a project created by former Ubu members, bassist Tony Maimone and drummer Scott Krauss, back in the 1980s. Hearing them is a opportunity to hear Ubu’s roots taken in another direction from the current Ubu led by vocalist David Thomas. The band, which also includes former Ubu members, guitarist Tom Herman and synth player Robert Wheeler, along with keyboard player Angel Mendoza and vocalist Keith Kornajcik, is more about the sound itself than the obsessions of one individual, riveting as he might sometimes be: a sound that’s open-ended, probing, by turns reassuring and startling.

This year, they’re joined by the Kidney Brothers, Bob and Jack, who have been the core (along with sax player Terry Hynde) of Kent’s Numbers Band for going on 50 years. The brothers also play and release music as a duo. In addition, ’80s alt-country band California Speedbag regroups for one of its periodic reunions.

Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
