Sixth City Sounds is a new organization, founded and driven by musicians, that aims to give the local music scene a boost by educating and promoting musicians and bands. It’s similar to the work done by the Cleveland Music Group back in the 90s.
Like CMG, Sixth City hosts educational panels with experts called Mixing Sessions which provide musicians with an opportunity to come together, network and discuss ways the community can come together to lift up everyone. At its latest such event, at the Beachland Tavern, members of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will talk about what legal resources are available for musicians to help them avoid getting ripped off, a sadly common occurrence in a profession that attracts starry-eyed fame-and-fortune seekers ready to believe anything.
