Bob Dylan recently played E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron, yet snubbed the Swedes over picking his up Nobel Prize. What makes Dylan tick? (Besides wanting to meet LeBron, like everybody else?) Come to Case Western Reserve University’s Tinkham Veale Center for possible answers.
Visiting for the event are two Bob Dylan scholars. Harvard’s Richard F. Thomas is author of the new volume Why Dylan Matters, which traces the folk-rock icon’s roots all the way back to Greco-Roman performing tradition. University of Texas professor Thomas G. Palaima is also an expert on classicism, yet finds Dylan to have many commonalities with the great works of the ancient world.
Admission is free but registration in advance is required.
