Paul Taylor Dance Returns to PlayhouseSquare With a Newly Commissioned Work

Paul Taylor American Modern Dance: “Continuum”

Sat 11/11 @ 7:30PM

The New York-based ensemble Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, is no stranger to Cleveland’s dance-presenting nonprofit DANCECleveland. The 63-year-old company, founded by the now 87-year-old choreographer Paul Taylor, has performed for the organization seven times, with an eighth about to happen at PlayhouseSquare’s Ohio Theatre.

Taylor has choreographed nearly 150 works in his career, and two of those, 1981’s showcase of virtuoso movement Arden Court and 1997’s tango-based Piazzolla Caldera are on the Cleveland program. That program will also feature Continuum, by Taylor alumna Lila York (an all-too-rate female choreographer), which premiered at Lincoln Center in March. Set to Max Richter’s Recomposed: The Four Seasons, it’s described as a piece “about conflict and finding peace, through the agent of a childlike gadfly — a child leading adults to a more enlightened place.”

Tickets are $25-$70. There is a pre-performance lecture at 6:45pm and a Q&A with the company afterward.
