Veteran Guitarist/Vocalist Andy Cohen Opens Folknet Fall Concert Series in Beachwood

Sat 9/9 @ 7PM

The Cleveland-based nonprofit Folknet formed back in the ’80s to promote all forms of acoustic and American roots music, promoting local musicians but also hosting guest touring musicians as well.

This fall it’s offering a series of concerts by visiting artists taking place at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beachwood. It starts this week with a grizzled veteran of the folk scene, finger-pickin’ guitarist/vocalist Andy Cohen, who got hooked on American folk music of all types during the ’60s folk revival, who cites Dixieland jazz, jug band music, blues, gospel, country, ragtime and ballads among the music styles in his background. He professes a passion for traditional tunes.

The concert is $15, or $12 for Folknet members.

Cohen will also be hosting a day-long workshop prior to the concert from 9:30am-5:30pm where he’ll teach the Piedmont style of picking and some basic tunes. It’s $20 or $18 for Folknet members, and online registration in advance is required.
