Tennessee Songwriter Nathan Bell Performs Ohio City House Concert

Fri 9/22 @ 8PM

Tennessee songwriter/musician Nathan Bell may not be very well known to the public at large, but his songs have elicited enormous respect from fellow performers, including Cleveland’s Rachel Brown, who recorded one of his tunes, “Whiskey You Win,” for her newly released album, Look Who’s Back.

And the 57-year-old late bloomer has been waiting a while for any recognition. After some minor early success in the New England folk scene and a duo with his ex-wife, he headed for Nashville in 1991, just as Garth Brooks was taking over that corner of the world.

“Nashville was a bad fit for me,” he says in his bio, an understatement. So he quit music for nearly 15 years. His 2011 release Black Crow Blue was his first real album under his own name; he’s released his fourth, Love > Fear (48 hours in traitorland), in June. He may not be the freshest young face on the scene, but his songs are drenched in the sort of hard-won life experience that many listeners will relate to more than the Nashville-approved “drinking ice-cold beer” bro country.

Listeners can get up close and intimate with Bell’s material when he comes to town to perform for Mechanic Street House Concerts, a series presented by Lynn and Joel in their Ohio City living room.

Doors open at 7:30; music starts at 8. It’s a $20 suggested donation, all of which goes to the artist. To reserve a seat or get more info, email mechanicstreetmusic@yahoo.com.
