Musicians Unite at Severance Hall to Help Harvey Victims

Fri 9/8 @ 7PM

The damage to the country’s fourth largest metropolis, Houston, from Hurricane Harvey will linger for many years, with massive flooding caused by the largest single rainfall in one place at one time in the U.S. Homes, businesses and cars were washed away and the environmental impact from the damage to the petrochemical businesses that underlie Houston’s economy is unknown.

So we’ve been deluged with pleas to help relief organizations providing assistance to people and pets alike. And they won’t go away anytime soon. Expect to see many benefits such as Help After Harvey at Severance Hall, a benefit for the American Red Cross.

There conductor James Feddeck, former assistant conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra and music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, will lead members of the Cleveland Orchestra, along with musicians from Credo Music, the Oberlin Conservation and the Cleveland Institute of Music in a program that opening with The Star-Spangled Banner and includes popular Americana such as Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and even the “American Red Cross March” (bet you didn’t even know there was such a thing!). They’ll also play Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.

“The concert centers on the idea that we are stronger when we join together, with this grouping of musicians of the greater Cleveland community serving as a tangible model of that truth,” say the organizers. “Just as musicians from Cleveland’s musical institutions are coming together to form a dynamic orchestra, the people of Cleveland will come together to show support for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.”

Tickets are $20, $10 for students.
