Music for Miles at Waterloo Arts Starts Season With Pop, Jazz, Classical, Cuban – and Swing Dance

Sun 9/10 @ 4PM

Another season of the Music for Miles concerts at Waterloo Arts kicks off this week with Bill Meyer’s Silver Keys Clarinet Quartet. They’ll be playing a program of pop, classical, jazz and folk music, including well-known opera and musical selection from Carmen, The Marriage of Figaro, West Side Story and Porgy and Bess, klezmer and Cuban music.

But there will be something a little extra at this month’s edition of the free family-friendly matinee concerts. Neil and Christy Dorenkott of Gotta Swing Dance will be performing a couple of numbers with theband, dancing to “Jitterbug Jump” and “You Can’t Do That Shimmie Here.”

The concerts are casual and you can come and go as you please, ideal for families with your children. Audience members have the chance to mingle with the musicians. And Callalou Café next door will be open for refreshments, including wine for the adults, and a menu of Caribbean-style food.

The Music for Miles concerts honor Miles Kennedy who, with his wife Nan, was one of the pioneers in the redevelopment of Waterloo Road.
