Jazz Guitarist Matthew Stevens Showcases New Album and Conducts Master Class at Akron’s BLU Jazz +

Sat 9/23 @ 6 & 8PM

Jazz guitarist Matthew Stevens is probably best known contributing to celebrated bassist Esperanza Spalding’s album of last year, Emily’s D+Evolution, and playing in her trio on the road. (Like Spaulding, he attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the early 00s). He has also served as music director for jazz trumpeter Christian Scott.

The New York-based musician released Woodwork, his debut album under his own name, in 2015, followed by his second, Preverbal, earlier this year. Unlike Woodwork, which was primarily acoustic, Preverbal delves more into electric guitar.

He and his band will take the new songs out for a spin at Blu Jazz + in Akron. Tickets are $20. Prior to the 8pm show, he’ll be doing a free master class at 6pm.
