Eat, Drink and Be Polka-Merry at the Slovenian Grape Festival at SNPJ Farm

Sun 9/24 @ 2PM

Harvest parties of all types are in abundance at this time of year as we celebrate the abundance of the Earth.

The Slovenian Grape Festival at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland doesn’t stop with the grape. It’s an afternoon of hearty Slovenian food, polka music (essential!) and dancing.

It kicks off with the polka parade at 2:45pm, led by accordionist Tony Fortuna (hmmm…. not a Slovenian name!) and highlighted by traditional costumes and singing. Joe Valencic, president of the National Cleveland-Style [Slovenian] Polka Hall of Fame, will lead a sing-along, with song sheets provided (you’ll have to listen carefully for the Slovenian pronunciations).

Then the Joey Tomsick Orchestra will play from 3-7pm for dancing in the grapevine- decorated pavilion. To keep your feet fueled for four hours, there will be Slovenian sausage, roast beef, homemade donuts and more. Dinner is available starting at 2pm.

Admission is $8, but if you wear your Slovenian costume or bring your accordion (or better yet, both) and show up at 2:15 to get in line for the parade it’s free.
