MOCA Cleveland Workshops Explore Art As an Agent of Change in “Fallout”

Sat 8/26 2 noon-5PM

There aren’t too many bright sides to the flailing, divisive Trump administration. But one of them is the upsurge in artist activism, both in art that speaks about civic, politic, economic and social issues, and in artists becoming activists to exert influence in the public sphere.

MOCA Cleveland has been in the middle of all of this. And Fallout, an afternoon of collective action workshops organized by Kate Sopko and Angela Beallor with Deidre McPherson, continues that work, asking, “How can we build stronger, more cohesive movements for positive change?”

Sopko and Beallor are part of MOCA’s current Constant as the Sun exhibit, with an installation that looks back to the fallout shelters of the ’50s and ’60s, with reference to the unrest and violence of today.

The workshops will cover topics related to that exhibit including the history of anti-nuclear organizing in Northeast Ohio; tools for building stronger movements to address systemic violence in America; and alternative health and herbal treatments to build individual and community resilience.

The workshops are free with museum admission, which is $9.50 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for students with valid ID.
