Green Growers Cooperative Holds BBQ to Share Its Mission with the Community

Sat 8/26 @ 2-6PM

Have you ever gotten off I-490 on E. 55th street and glanced off to the east down side street Diamond Avenue as you headed north? Maybe you saw what looked like a greenhouse hidden back there and wondered what it was.

It IS a greenhouse! It’s Green City Growers, a project of the Evergreen Cooperatives, a local organization that seeds sustainable businesses — both in their output (in this case hydroponically grown lettuces, gourmet greens and herbs that supply places like the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) and in their job creation model, hiring from the surrounding struggling neighborhoods and helping employees attain middle-class status — and an ownership in the business.

Intrigued? Green City Growers is holding an open house/BBQ this Saturday with live music, activities for kids and of course, food. Learn the company’s story during a recognition ceremony and see for yourself what they grow and how. It’s free and open to all.
