ContempOpera Puts the “Pop” in Opera at Tremont’s Lincoln Park

Fri 8/25 @ 7PM

With all the small local opera companies jostling for space on the calendar, everyone is looking for new angles. One of those is the new ContempOpera. It was founded by Andrea Anelli who launched Opera per Tutti (now Cleveland Opera Theater) in 2006 with a similar goal. She started ContempOpera last year after her departure from Cleveland Opera Theater.

Going a step beyond introducing new listeners to opera through free concerts of familiar arias in non-traditional venues, ContempOpera throws opera in a blender with pop and musical theater and mixes well, inviting both classically trained and musical theater performers to share the stage for its “crossover” performances.

A seven-voice group will be featured at Tremont’s Arts in August in Lincoln Park, All Arts in August performances are free; bring a chair or blanket and your favorite snacks and refreshments.
