Cleveland Opera Theater Brings Free Arias to Public Square and Dunham Tavern

Fri 8/25 @ 6-8PM

Sun 8/27 @ 5PM

Cleveland Opera Theater presents fully staged operas in traditional venues. But it also has a mission to bring new listeners to the art form. It does so by offering free programs of short pieces, many of them familiar even to non-opera fans, in non-traditional venues for free.

It’s got two such performances this weekend. On Friday evening it will perform in Public Square, as part of the ongoing summer arts and culture programming there. You can bring chairs, blankets and picnics and enjoy an evening in the heart of downtown Cleveland.

Then on Sunday, it’s doing its popular annual concert at the historic Dunham Tavern on Euclid Avenue near the Cleveland Clinic. Doors open at 5pm for “tailgating,” with food trucks, wine and beer available with the concert starting at 6:30. Again, you can bring your own picnic, along with a chair or blanket. Among other things, they’ll offer previews of the coming season so if you like what you hear, you can plan on buying tickets.
