Cleveland Guitarist/Songwriter Derek DePrator Celebrates New Album at Beachland Show

Tue 8/29 @ 8:30PM

Cleveland guitarist/songwriter/sometime singer Derek Paul DePrator has been through a lot of changes in the time he’s been on the music scene, reflecting his varied musical interests.

His latest album, Up Off the Floor!, on which he played almost all the instruments except drums on one track, is predominantly fingerstyle acoustic guitar instrumentals that are exceptionally evocative and create very different moods. He breaks them up with an occasional vocal track — a raggedy electric rocker like “A Dying Day” and the raw “Alone,” which is probably as perfect a definition of “punk folk” as anything. And while DePrator’s quavering, off-key voice won’t be everyone’s thing, in small doses (as on this record), it’s effective.

DePrator will be celebrating the new album with a show at the Beachland Tavern, where he’ll play on a bill with two local singer/songwriters, Alan Madej and G.S. Harper. Admission is $5.
