Cavotta’s Garden Center in South Collinwood is known for its tomatoes. In its greenhouse, proprietor Angela Cavotta grows over 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes from seed. For local gardeners who like to grow tomatoes, it’s an adventure to pick up new kinds.
Now all those tomatoes are at their peak ripeness, so for the second year, Cavotta’s is hosting a tomato-tasting party for the second year. Area chefs, mostly from the communities surrounding Collinwood, will be presenting tomatoes in various forms. The Coit Road Farmer’s Market, Beachclub Bistro, Bistro 185, Butcher and the Brewer, Forage Public House, Irie Jamaican Kitchen and Osteria will be contributing tomato-based appetizers, and there will be tomato cocktails as well.
Live music, raffles and the company of lovers of good food and passionate gardeners make this a party not to miss. But tickets, priced at $35 in advance only, are going fast. Call Angela at 330897-1497 quick!
