Blank Canvas Theatre Takes On Challenging Psychological Drama ‘Equus’

Fri 8/11-Sat 8/26

Peter Shaffer’s 1973 play Equus is sort of a period piece with its convoluted, overheated psychological drama, involving a teenager boy with a sexual and religious fixation on horses. It also provides intense, tour de force roles for actors as the boy Alan and Dr. Dysart, the psychiatrist who treats him.

When Blank Canvas Theatre in the 78th Street Studios opens its version of the play this week, Antonio DeJesus assumes the role of Alan in his first production at Blank Canvas, and Russell B. Kunz is Dr. Dysart. Several actors also play horses.

The play runs Thursdays through Saturdays @ 8pm and Sundays at 7pm through Sat 8/26. Tickets are $18.
