As a tip of the hat to the old WMMS Coffeebreak Concerts of the ’70s and ’80s, Cleveland-based online station oWow Radio revived the free concerts, with a mix of top local and up-and-coming touring acts, as a summer concert series. Taking place at the Music Box Supper Club, these Happy Hour concerts, which are broadcast live, are free and offer patrons a chance to stop in after work, have a bite to eat, hear a show and still get home at a reasonable hour.
This week, the concert features an act known to several generations of Cleveland music lovers: acoustic folksinger Alex Bevan, whose career began way back in the early ’70s. He’s known especially for his songwriting, by turns humorous and tender, addressing love, old friendships, the beauty of nature and human foibles.
Doors open at 5pm; concert starts promptly at 6 and airs from 6-7pm, although those in the house usually get some extra music.
