Comedian and writer/co-creator of The Daily Show Lizz Winstead founded Lady Parts Justice in 2012 to raise awareness of the escalating attempts by state legislatures across the country to take away women’s reproductive freedom. Few states have passed as much anti-woman/anti-choice legislation as Ohio and even now, there are new bills being introduced in the statehouse to put limits on women’s lives.
And the winner of the LPJ 2016 ‘Golden Probe” award for “Best Adaptation of Reality”(i.e. making shit up) was none other than Ohio attorney general and governor wannabe Mike DeWine! So it’s appropriate that Winstead is bring her Vagical Mystery Tour featuring the Lady Parts Justice League to Ohio to perform at Mahall’s.
Who are the Lady Parts Justice League? They’re “a coven of hilarious and witty feminist comedians and writers who use humor and pop culture to expose the haters fighting against reproductive rights. They believe if there is not laughter, dancing and sexy time in your revolution, you need to fix that.”
Specifically, they’re Aida Rodriguez of Showtime’s Shaq’s All Star Comedy Jam, Joyelle Johnson of Night Train with Wyatt Cenac, and four-woman sketch comedy ensemble Buzz Off, Lucille. Mike DeWine would be no match for these ladies — if he dared to put down the marijuana-laced banana he’s been smoking and show up.
Winstead will host the evening which will spotlight the sexism, racism and homophobia that seem to go hand to hand with denial of reproductive rights. Local clinic workers and advocates will be on hand to share with audience members what is being done locally to fight back.
