Jazz Trumpeter Dominick Farinacci Leads Big Band Tribute to the Stokes Brothers at Nighttown

Fri 7/7 @ 8:30PM

Jazz trumpeter Dominick Farinacci has gone far since his days as part of Tri-C’s high school jazz program. His talents have taken him to New York’s Juilliard School as part of its first-ever Jazz Studies class (on the recommendation of Wynton Marsalis), to Japan where his first albums were release, to Qatar in the Persian Gulf where he spend a couple of years performing and teaching, to the stage of Severance Hall with the Cleveland Orchestra.

But he’s always coming back home to share his music with Clevelanders (he’s a regular at the annual Tri-C JazzFest which took place a couple of weeks ago). And now he’s put together a new project, the Stokes Legacy Jazz Orchestra, special 18-piece big band to honor Carl and Louis Stokes during a year-long city-wide tribute. Soloists featuring include Farinacci himself trombonists Sam Blakeslee and Mark Mauldin, sax player Chris Coles, trumpeter Scott McKee, drummer Elijah Gilmore and more. He’s brought together students from middle school, high school and college programs to perform with professional players from around northeast Ohio.

Together, they will tell the Stokes story through the work of such jazz greats as Duke Ellington and Count Basie. It takes place at Nightgown. Tickets are $15.
