Joseph Arthur Marks 15th Anniversary of ‘Redemption’s Son’ Album at the Music Box

Thu 6/29 @ 8PM

Akron singer/songwriter/guitarist Joseph Arthur left town in the early ’90s to begin his serious musical explorations that have taken him in a variety of directions. Hs big break came when Peter Gabriel discovered him and released Arthur’s 1997 debut, Big City Secrets, on his Real World Records

The prolific chameleon performer, now based in Brooklyn, now more than two dozen albums and EPs in his catalog, released on various indie labels. One of the most loved is 2002’s Redemption’s Son. To honor that album’s 15th anniversary, Real World is re-issuing the album with the original artwork and nine bonus tracks, dubbed Morning Star. And Arthur is doing a short solo tour on which he’ll play the entire album in order.

“I‘ve never done this album from start to finish live,” Arthur says in the news release for the tour. “But Redemption’s Son was always a special record to me and my fans, and this clearly seemed like the right time to do it. As I’ve been saying recently to my friends, listening to this album against after all these years has re-inspired me.”

He’ll perform the album at the Music Box Supper Club. Allison Pierce, half of the Birmingham, Alabama, sister duo the Pierces, opens. Tickets are $22 in advance, $28 day of show.
