Genre-Bending Duo Black Violin Return to Cain Park

Fri 6/16 @ 8PM

Florida duo Black Violin returns to Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheater will music that spans genres and cultures. The two musicians— Wilner “Wil B” Baptiste and Kevin “Kev Marcus” Sylvester — aim to make playing the violin as cool among black kids as it is among Asian kids.

Both are trained musicians with backgrounds in studio and performance work as well as education, and both have played a range of styles from classical to soul to hip hop and even bluegrass. They’ve played with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Tom Petty, Alicia Keys, Aerosmith, Kanye West and Gym Class Heroes. They’ve also released three albums, the latest of which is 2015’s Stereotypes.

And they make frequent appearances at schools to encourage kids to turn to music instead of street activities. So they want you to bring the kids to their concert at Cain Park. That’s why they have a special kids ticket price: it’s $35 for adults, but only $20 for students under 18 with ID, $10 for kids 13 and under. And kids two and under are free if they sit on their parent’s lap.
