Festival of the Fish Is All Wet in Vermilion

Fri 6/16-Sat 6/17 @ noon-11PM

Sun 6/18 @ noon-6PM

Even though the city hosts the sprawling Woolly Bear Festival in the fall, the lakefront community of Vermilion over to the west opens the summer season with the Festival of the Fish, one of the largest community carnivals in the area.

For the 51st annual edition, expect a pet parade in the best Dick Goddard tradition, a sandcastle building contest at Main Street Beach and fireworks. And a firemen’s water-hose fight (very handy in case the fireworks thing goes wrong).

And there is indeed a Crazy Craft Race at 1pm on the Vermilion River; the same waterway hosts the inspiring sight of a Lighted Boat Parade Saturday at dusk. There is also live music, an antique wooden-boat parade, vendors and food, with kids’ activities at the gazebo of Victory Park. Admission is free.
