Akron Symphony Goes Al Fresco for Summer Concerts

Tue 7/4 @ @ 8PM

The Akron Symphony may not have Blossom Music Center for summer concerts like the Cleveland Orchestra does but they have plenty of parks around the city to perform al fresco.

Their outdoor summer season starts on Independence Day when they join the festivities at Rib, White and Blue at Lock 3 with a free concert starting at 8pm, followed by (guess what!) fireworks at 9:45pm. They’ll play popular American/patriotic elections such as Armed Forces Salute, the theme from Rocky, John Phillip Sousa’s “Washington Post March” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

They’ll start their parks tour  Sun 7/23 at Hardesty Park. They’ll be at Firestone Park Sun 7/30, Goodyear Heights Metro Park Sun 8/6 and Glendale Cemetery Sun 8/13. All of those performances start at 7:30pm. The programs will include a variety of popular selections including Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, John Williams’ Suite from Jaws and Tubby the Tuba featuring the orchestra’s principal tuba player Ken Heinlein.

The concerts are all free.
