Wings’ Denny Laine Comes to the Kent Stage With his Tribute to ‘Band on the Run’

Wed 5/3 @ 8PM

Denny Laine’s original claim to fame, forgotten by most, was as the original lead singer for the Moody Blues on their first hit, 1964’s “Go Now.” That was back when they were just another one-hit British invasion entry, likely to disappear into the sands of time, before they reinvented themselves (without Laine) as one of the first symphonic rock bands and a key progenitor of progressive rock.

But most rock fans probably know him better as a member of Paul McCartney’s Wings from 1971-1981 when McCartney was making his best solo music, with its pinnacle being Band on the Run, released in December 1973 and producing two hit singles the following year. In 1975-76, the band took the music on the road with the Wings Over the World tour, which produced the triple live album Wings Over America in late 1976, at a time when live albums were a hot ticket. (It was the year Frampton Comes Alive made Peter Frampton a superstar).

In honor of that release, Laine is taking to the road with a 40th anniversary of Wings Over America tour where he’ll perform Band on the Run. He’ll be stopping at the Kent Stage. Tickets are $30.
