Founded in San Francisco in 2004, the SF Jazz Collective convenes each year in San Francisco for a three-week residency where the eight musicians (the membership has varied over the years) rehearse new material, do educational programs and perform around the Bay area before going out on the road for a short tour. All the members take this time out from their own busy careers — you might recognize names like trombonist Robin Eubanks, sax player David Sanchez and trumpet player Sean Jones, the immediate past artistic director of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.

Each year they put together an entirely new repertoire that features works of a great modern jazz composers — a different one each year — plus eight new works, one by each band members. This year’s featured jazz great is Miles Davis.

One of their first stops when they hit the road is Cleveland where they’ll perform at the Music Box Supper Club in a shot sponsored by Tri-C Jazzfest. Tickets are $25.
