Musical Theater Project Delves into the Story of ‘Annie!’

Sat 4/29 @ 7PM

Sun 4/30 @ 3PM

A little more than 40 years ago, lyricist Martin Charnin and composer Charles Strouse made a musical out of what most considered very unpromising material: the Depression-era comic strip Little Orphan Annie. But the quality of the songs and the sponsorship of producer Mike Nichols helped the resulting show Annie! last for six years on Broadway in its initial run on Broadway. These days, who doesn’t recognize songs like “Tomorrow,” “Maybe” and “It’s a Hard-Knock Life.”

The Musical Theater Project’s next Behind the Musical presentation will tell the whole story of that musical in song, words and visuals. TMTP founder Bill Rudman and his regular partner Nancy Maier will co-host with performances by Lexi Cowan, Eric Fancher, Sheri Gross, Jessica Cope Miller and special guest Gilgamesh Taggett who has played the role of Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks in the touring company of Annie! since 2014.

They’ll perform at the Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College on Saturday, were tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth 18 and under, and at Chagrin Falls Performing Arts Center on Sunday, with tickets ranging from $10-$35.
