Great Lakes Science Center Screens “Hidden Figures” in Dome Theater with Special Programming

Hidden Figures

Thu 4/20 @ 6PM

The movie Hidden Figures, about the contributions of African-American women mathematicians who worked at NASA during the Space Race, was released this past December to excellent reviews and was nominated for three Oscars (among them Best Picture) and two Golden Globes. Based on the lives of real women, it depicted the important roles they played (including in John Glenn’s historic flight orbiting the Earth) as well as the double whammy of sexism and racism they faced in the 1960s at the Hampton-based Langley Research Center.

Appropriately, since it houses the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, Great Lakes Science Center is screening the film for a limited run in its Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater, starting Thu 4/20 @ 4pm. At that screening as well as ones on 4/27, 5/4 and 5/7, there will be “Modern Figures” speakers; there will be additional “May the Fourth Be With You” activities and programming on 5/4 and a hands-on STEM program for mothers and daughters on 5/13.
