Cleveland Classical Guitar Society Ends Season With Brazil’s Assad Brothers

Sun 4/30 @ 3PM

The Cleveland Classical Guitar Society brings down the curtain on its 2016-2017 International Series season with Grammy-winning Brazilian brother duo, Sérgio and Odair Assad.

Coming from a musical family (their sister is also a guitarist and Sergio’s daughter is a composer and pianist who has written music for the duo), the duo has been playing together for more than a half century infusing their classical technique with native Brazilian influences with composers ranging from Astor Piazzolla to Terry Riley writing music for them; they’ve collaborated with artists such as soprano Dawn Upshaw, violinist Ndja Salerno-Sonneberg, jazz saxophonist/clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera, and of course cellist Yo-Yo Ma, known for his adventurous collaborations. Their repertoire includes classical, folk, jazz and original music written by Sergio.

Currently Odair teaches in Brussels, while Sérgio is on the faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory. The concert takes place at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights. Tickets are $25-$50.
