Welshly Arms have been a Cleveland buzz band virtually since they formed four years ago, with founding members that were veterans of the local music scene. Their bluesy, soulful classic rock had instant cross-generational appeal and the group found itself slotted on major music festivals and picked to provide the soundtrack for a Cleveland tourism commercial in 2014.
While the group has been gaining momentum steadily, it really seems like it’s “on the verge” now. They’re in the midst of an east coast/midwest tour that takes them to Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Philadelphia and New York, among other places, and they leave for a European tour in late May. Milwaukee’s huge Summerfest is on their calendar for July.
You can catch them while they breeze through town to headline the Beachland Ballroom with seven-piece Boston funksters Ripe and Cleveland funky/soul-rock band Samfox opening. As a bonus, two of the area’s most gifted roots-rock singer/songwriter/guitarists will be playing in the Tavern and if you buy a ticket to the ballroom show, you can check that one out for free. They are $5 in advance, $20 at the door.
