There’ll Be Lots of Jamming When Ekoostik Hookah and the Danksgiving Band Play the Kent Stage

Ekoostik Hookah

Sat 3/11 @ 8PM

Columbus’ Ekoostik Hookah has been a mainstay of the regional jam scene for more than 25 years and a catalyst for other bands, playing a steady stream of gigs and solidifying their base with the Hookahville festivals they’ve hosted in central Ohio as well as Nelson Ledges up here in northeast Ohio. They’ve broadened their network by playing other jam-oriented festivals as well.

While members have come and gone in that time, founder and main songwriter Dave Katz and lead guitarist Steve Sweney remain from the founding lineup and drummer Eric Lanese has been with them since 1993 — not band for a group that never broke through to the top tier of jam bands.

Katz has been a part of the Danksgiving Family Band, which plays its annual Danksgiving concert each November at the Kent Stage. The good news is that Ekoostik Hookah is making one of their regular stops at the Kent Stage and the Danksgiving Family Band will be coming together to perform on the bill to perform an extended set of Grateful Dead music. In addition to Katz, they include Jim Miller of the JiMiller Band, Jim Tauscher and Jim Garibaldi from Aliver Hall, Yosemight’s Tony Kazel and Jim Flutz of the Hucklebuck —a cross-generational group of Cleveland jammers. Also on the bill are younger Cleveland jam band Vibe & Direct.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
