Robert Lockwood Jr. was a huge presence in the Cleveland blues scene for nearly 50 years, from the time he moved to Cleveland and started playing local bars in 1960 until his death in 2006 at the age of 91. His real international fame didn’t start until he began recording regularly in his mid 50s and playing blues festivals. Over the ears, he inspired countless younger musicians and he continued to play regularly until just a few months before his death.

Each year, some of the musicians who knew and worked with him gather to pay tribute to his music. In honor of what would have been his 102nd birthday, the Lockwood All-Stars (Robert “Red Top” Young, DC Carnes, Gus Hawkins, Benny Mostella, Richard Smith, Vernondo Parker) will be joined by the Wallace Coleman Group, the Schwartz Brothers, the Vernon Jones Blues Cartel, the Hollywood Slim Band, Pete & Nolan Cavano, and Bob Frank for an evening at the Beachland Ballroom.

It’s free.
