There are always curmudgeons in the Plain Dealer comments section (which you shouldn’t read for the sake of our own mental health) ready to dis the quality of students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. They need to have their faces rubbed in the annual CMSD All-City Musical, now in its 18th year.

Each year, talented kids from schools all over Cleveland prepare a major musical production which the present at PlayhouseSquare. This year, it’s The Wiz, the 1974 musical (famously made into a 1978 film with a stunning cast that included Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Richard Pryor and Lena Horne) that interpreted The Wizard of Oz through the lens of African-American/urban culture. The CMSD cast is, of course, multi-racial. Ease on down the road, kids!

They’ll be doing three performances at the Ohio Theatre. Tickets are $15.
