St. Petersburg Philharmonic Plays Brahms & Shostakovich at Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall

For its next concert, Akron’s Tuesday Musical Association brings an orchestra with a long history to EJ Thomas Hall. Russia’s St. Petersburg Philharmonic was founded in 1882 and performed for tsars. Today it enjoys an international reputation and performs for classical music lovers in cities like Akron.

Its conductor Nikolai Alexeev will lead the orchestra in a concert that will feature Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1
and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10. The soloist on the symphony is another Russia, Moscow-born Nikolai Lugansky, Tuesday Musical’s 2017 Margaret Baxtresser pianist.

Tickets are $25-$45.
