From 2002-2015, Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum was president of Spelman College in Atlanta, one of the U.S.’s elite Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) and one of a shrinking number of women’s colleges. During her tenure she doubled the amount of scholarship support and in 2013, she did something visionary that every college and university in America should do: abolished varsity sports and redirected the resources to wellness programs beneficial to ALL students, not just elite athletes.

She is using her retirement to write and speak about issues surrounding race, diversity and racial identity. She’ll be at Case Western Reserve University to speak about “The Power of Diversity” at the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building Auditorium on the Case Western Reserve University campus. It’s free and open to the public.
