Learn How Today’s Activism Compares With That of the Past at the Maltz Museum

Activism

Wed 2/15 @ 7PM

With a total one-party government installed in Washington D.C. that seems hell-bent on trampling the foundations of democracy and on doing exactly the opposite of what most Americans want, armies of activists young and old are popping up very quickly on all sides of us.

The Maltz Museum is presenting a timely event called Activism: Then and Now that can provide some perspective. A panel led by Dr. Rhonda Y. Williams, founder and director of Case Western Reserve’s Social Justice Institute, will talk about social justice activism today and how it can move forward, the role played by a shell-shocked media with conflicting interests, and the idea of “slacktivism.”

Panelists include civil rights attorney James L. Hardimon, activist Rachelle Smith, writer/activist RA Washington of Guide to Kulchur and Books 2 Prisoners, and Kate Sopko, who produced a series of short films called The Fixers to shine a light on Cleveland change-makers during the Republican National Convention last summer.

It’s $12 general admission or $6 for Maltz Museum members. Call 216-593-0575 or go to maltzmuseum.org to make a reservation.
