Kick Off Winter Weeks with Lindy Dance Classes at Brecksville Arts Center

Fundamentals

Mon 2/27 @ 7PM

Here’s one way to kick off those winter weeks with something to look forward every Monday: from this week through early spring (Mon 3/27), the Brecksville Center for the Arts is offering a series of five Lindy Hop classes, led by Northeast Ohio’s leading practitioner of this dance style, Valerie Salstrom of Get Hep Swing.

With its origins in the fertile Harlem scene of the ’20s and early ’30s, Lindy Hop merged with jazz, and eventually gave birth to what we know as jitterbug in the ’40s and ’50s.

Salstrom will teach you everything from the basics to some flashy show moves. You can join with or without a partner, since partners change throughout the class, giving everyone experience with lots of different people. You can sign up as a family too since anyone 10 years or older can join. You’ll be ready to go for the swing dances Get Hep Swing hosts around the city multiple times a month.

The series includes five one-hour classes each Monday from 7-8pm. It’s $60 for an individual, $100 for a couple. Go to brecksvillearts.org or email brecksvillearts@yahoo.com to register.
