The Ice Wines Cometh to the Grand River Valley Ice Wines Festival

The number 13 will hopefully be a lucky one for wine-lovers — patrons of the 13th annual Grand River Valley Ice Wine Festival.

Calling attention to the wines that come of age and are harvested in a cold, distinctly non-Mediterranean climate (gee, what could the tie-in with northeast Ohio be?), the highly anticipated festival actually consists of self-guided tours of participating specialty vintners in Ashtabula County along three successive Saturdays.

Debonné Vineyards, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Grand River Cellars Winery & Restaurant, Laurello Vineyards, and St. Joseph Vineyards cooperate in the progressive tastings of 2017. Each winery will provide a sample of their wines, an ice wine glass, and a complimentary appetizer, sometimes also pairing the occasion with live music, dance, ice carving, maple sugar harvesting, arts and crafts, and even dogsled demonstrations. Even after the 5pm closing, some restaurants will have special wine dinners.

The cost to take part is $6 per winery (though a donation to a local food pantry can get a discount on even that).
