Some of the popular bands with roots in traditional Irish music have been kicking around since before most of their audiences were born. Solas has “ only” been around since the mid ’90s, putting them in an interim generation between the old-timers and the wave of new young Celtic-influenced bands.

In their two decades, the American band has maintained a constant touring and recording schedule though, and having a big impact on the Irish music scene with its appealing mix of new arrangements of traditional tunes and its own tradition-drenched originals infused with a highly developed sense of social justice and sympathy for the workingman and woman.

Last year, it released All These Years, its eleventh album, with yet another new singer, Moira Smiley (who also plays banjo), joining founding members, multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan and violinist/vocalist Winifred Horan, and long-time members, accordion player Mick McAuley and keyboardist/guitarist Eamon McElholm.

The group returns to Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge. Tickets are $25, $20 for conservancy members, $7.50 for kids ages 3-12. Buy them online at forcvnp.org/concerts or call 330-657-2909, option 4.
