Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, and Johann Sebastian Bach are a perfect marriage. And their upcoming program, “Virtuoso Bach: An Instrumental Extravaganza,” will showcase their ability to execute his compositions with skill and élan.

The concerts, conducted from the harpsichord by the group’s music director Jeannette Sorrell, will feature pieces Bach composted for his orchestra at the palace of Köthen, including two never performed in Cleveland on period instruments: Orchestral Suite No. 1 and Oboe Concerto in G minor. It will also feature two of the popular Brandenburg concertos, No 3 and No. 4. Members of the orchestra featured on solos include oboist Debra Nagy, recorder players Kathie Stewart and Francis Colpron and, on Concerto No. 4, a violin solo by concertmaster Olivier Brault.

They’ll perform at Lake Erie College in Painesville on Thursday, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights on Friday and Saturday, Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sunday and the Bath Church in Akron on Monday. The Friday and Monday concerts will feature an afterglow post-concert party where concertgoers can have some refreshments and meet and mingle with the musicians.

Tickets are $20-$70.
