An Evening With(out) David Bowie will be presented in two parts, celebrating the January birth and death anniversaries of arguably the most influential artist of our time.

Part 1 (7:30PM each evening) covers the early years, from Bowie’s precocious musical development, his futile and repeated attempts at 1960’s rock and roll, to his first hit with “Space Oddity.” It would be three more years until his Ziggy Stardust persona takes off, triggering a manic spate of hit singles, bizarre concept albums, and finally worldwide “Fame” with Young Americans, just as the excesses of mid-1970’s stardom threaten to drown the fragile artist.

Part 2 (9:30PM each evening) opens with David Bowie living like a king, having achieved stardom far beyond even his own fevered imagination, but strung out on drugs and subsisting on warm milk and peppers. He escapes Los Angeles decadence with an unlikely roommate and traveling companion, Iggy Pop, and, attracted by the arid Krautrock beat of Kraftwerk, alights in Berlin, the heroin capital of Europe. This session tracks the artist through the worldwide arena success of “Let’s Dance,” through his not-always successful but consistently interesting experiments in the 1980’s and 90’s, all the way through his strange death following the symbol-heavy albums “The Next Day” and “Blackstar ★,” and includes a review of the recently released soundtrack to his New York theatrical production “Lazarus,” his newly released box sets and his final recordings. So far as we know.

Celebrating his birth (1/8) and death (1/10) anniversaries, identical performances will be presented at Cleveland’s BOP STOP on Fri 1/13 and Sat 1/14, with Part 1 at 7:30PM each evening, and Part 2 at 9:30PM each evening. A discount is available for those wishing to stay for the complete evening. More info: http://www.BowieShows.com
