It may be small consolation, but many are predicting that the incoming presidential administration and far-right Congress will bring about an explosion of powerful art in response. We’ll see.

Apparently, the 13th annual FRESH Juried Art Exhibition, the regional contemporary art show taking place at Akron’s Summit Artspace, is expecting something along these lines saying it will feature “works reacting to a turbulent world.”

The 33 pieces by 29 local artists were selected by University of Akron Myers School of Art professor Charles Beneke from 71 entries, who says they project “a sense of unease and trepidation — our world is unsettled; our political climate is divisive; big changes are impending.” Many of them reflect on the recent election, as well as changes in world cultures, questions of personal identity and the exploration of space.

The show opens with a reception Fri 1/13 @ 5-8pm and runs through Sat 2/18. The gallery is open Thu & Fri @ noon-7pm and Sat @noon-5pm. It’s free.
