With schools on winter break, many area institutions are offering special activities to keep kids engaged. For six days, the Great Lakes Science Center will host Winter Week with demonstrations, programs and interactive activities, loosely held together with a winter/holiday theme.

They range from experiments such as liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstrations to just-for-fun things like fruitcake explosions on the center’s front lawn. Visitors can light up snowflakes with LEDs or help create a wintry miniature cityscape, carpet-skate or participate in a snowy dance party held hourly. Go on Sat 12/30 and at 2:17 you can watch 2,017 balloons falling from the top of the atrium. All special activities are includes with regular museum admission: $15 for adults, $12 for ages 2-12.
